Winter Term and Other Musings

It has been a long time since I have posted here. I’m not even sure anyone reads this anymore, but I believe in maintaining my voice in an online medium of some kind, so here I am again.

I am about to finish the second to last term of my B.A. Next term I have only 8 credits to take, and then I will graduate with my degree. I’m not even sure I can process the gravity of that right now; I’ve been pursuing this degree for six years. The idea that it’s over is both joyful and sad. I’ve worked hard to accomplish this goal, so it’s immensely joyful to think that I will have completed it. But it also means this chapter is coming to an end, and I’m not sure I’m ready for that. (I said the same thing about my Associates degree, so I’m sure you see the pattern.)

What’s next for me? Hopefully, graduate school. I applied to Oregon State’s full residency MFA program. We’ll see how I fare with that, and in the meantime, I’ll be preparing to apply to various literature and creative writing PhDs throughout the country. I’m thinking my literary specialization will likely be in 19th century British literature. It’s one of my absolute favorite periods. My three all-time favorite novels come from that period (Wuthering Heights, Jane Eyre, and Pride and Prejudice). So it makes sense.

Over the course of this and next week, I’ll be making posts about Jane Eyre for my Senior Thesis Final Project. After that, hopefully, I’ll have more to tell about Spring Term and, of course, graduation.
