Autumnal Equinox

It’s finally the first day of autumn! Finally!

The last few days have hinted and pointed to the waxing autumn; we’ve seen fog in the mornings scurry away as a bright September sun filled a crisp blue sky. The days have been warm, but not hot. The mornings and evenings have been cool and smelled of earth. And we’ve had rain – not as much as we need, but more than we’ve had most of the year.

It’s an exciting time of year. I love the fall. The leaves, the cooler weather, the rain, the fog…I really, really love the fog. I love sipping hot tea and eating soups and stews and wearing hoodies and wool socks. And in honor of the first day of fall, I’m wearing an orange cotton shirt and maroon leggings. It’s my favorite autumn outfit.

I didn’t finish my August challenge of reading a book of poetry a day, so I’ve been doing what I can to finish those books over the last several weeks. My goal for the rest of the year is to read two books of poetry every week. I’m already 18 books ahead of my Goodreads goal, which is very exciting. And for my birthday next month, I’ll be buying myself a nice selection of poetry books to keep adding to what I already have. I’m also going to reread several of the books I read this year because there are some which I simply have to take in a second time.

Anyway, I’m sitting here with a hot cup of tea and I’m staring out at the beautiful autumn day and I’m reminded of just how much there is to love about life.
